Original Musical Instruments Workshop

Musician, director and original musical instruments builder Peter Kus will lead a two-day workshop on making and use of original musical instruments, co-organized by Puppet Theater Ljubjana. The workshop is intended for musicians and other artists, educators (kindergartens teachers, music teachers in elementary and secondary schools) and music lovers who are interested in this field of work. It will take place on 21st and 22nd of March in Ljubljana Puppet Theatre.

The workshop will include:

  • lecture on various aspects of the use of original instruments: in education, in independent music making and in theater,
  • the visit of the performance The Lost Tone,
  • detailed presentation and testing of the original instruments that are part of the show The Lost Tone
  • presentation of the basic acoustic and technical principles of making instruments,
  • practical building of approximately 12 sound makers and instruments,
  • music-making on original instruments: group improvisation, sound painting (the method of W. Thompson), creating simple songs or musical accompaniments for text (musical fairy tale) and pictures,
  • workshop is intended for ADULTS; when accompanied by their parents, also children older than 9 years of age can attend,
  • registration fee for the workshop is 50 € per person and includes a ticket for The Lost Tone show,

The workshop will be held on Small Stage (Friday) and in the lobby Under the Stars Stage (Saturday) at the following times:

Friday, 21st of March

3.45 p.m.: Arrival of participants and registration
16.00 p.m. to 16.45 p.m.: Introductory lecture
5.00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.: the visit of The Lost Tone show
6.15 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.: presentation and testing instruments from the show
7.00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.: Instrument Making 1

Saturday, 22nd of March

9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.: Instrument Making 2
2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m.: Music-making on the instruments, and the end with a brief presentation.
